Insight Community Survey Results

Cat Strategy was one of several topics covered in the February 2018 Mixed Topic Insight Community Survey. The survey was open from February 13 - 20, 2018.
At the time the survey was launched, survey invitations were sent to 7,131 Insight Community members.
A total of 2,071 respondents completed the survey:
  • 2,024 members (or 28% of the invited Insight Community members).
  • 40 other individuals who accessed the survey via a link.  No demographic information was gathered for these 40 individuals.

Question 1:

A brief description of benefit of pets and the how ownership of pets is regulated.
Respondents were asked to select one response for each item.
Item: I/my family currently own a cat
Item: I/my family owned a cat in the last 5 years
Item: Cats are important to me/my life                                           
Item: I am an animal health professional or animal rescue volunteer

Question 2:

A brief description of the various types of roaming cats was provided.
Respondents were asked to select one response for each item.
Item: I allow my cat to roam off my property
Item: I have observed owned cats
Item: I have observed stray cats
Item: I have observed feral cats
Item: I know someone feeding cats                                                     
Item: I know someone providing outdoor shelter to cats

Question 3:

Respondents were asked to select one response to each item to the following question:
From your experience in the last 12 months, did you notice higher than normal number of feral cats?
Item: Your neighbourhood?
Item: City Wide?

Question 4:

Respondents were asked to select one response for each item to the following question/explanation:
Would you support the Animal Care and Control Center...? *Trap Neuter Return involves trapping, vaccinating, fixing, microchipping and returning cats to where they were found, supported by a volunteer caregiver.
Item: Continue to release feral cats to owners of farms and warehouses that have rodent management issues
Item: Euthanize all feral cats                                                          
Item: Trap Neuter Return* to live out natural life wild in the neighbourhood
Item: Leave all feral cats alone
